The District Election Officer Kamrup, on 10th April 2019, issued a notification to all the higher educational institutions in the district to launch a signature campaign cum door-to-door campaign for ethical voting from 11th of April 2019 in coordination with the student’s fraternity of all the colleges and the higher secondary schools. The aim of this initiative is to spread the message of ethical voting among the voters as Kamrup district goes to vote on 23rd April 2019, in the third phase of the Lok Sabha Election 2019. The aim of this campaign is to reach out to the voters to the farthest corner of the district and make the election an inclusive exercise in the true sense.

Keeping conformity with the program, the Department of Political Science, on behalf of Suren Das College Hajo has taken the initiative to involve the students in this campaign and to go to the rural voters of Hajo. The campaign has been started from 12th April. A total of 25 students of the college have participated in this campaign. Each student has written down the pledge in Assamese and collected the signatures of at least 20 voters in their households, neighborhoods, family, and friends, below the pledge. The students have also spread the message of ethical voting verbally during their door-to-door campaign and collecting signatures.

This campaign will make the rural voters aware of the importance of ethical voting in a democracy and will definitely work towards increasing the voter’s turnout in the coming Lok Sabha Election.
