The Teacher's Day was celebrated on 5th Sepetember, 2022 under the auspices of the literary Branch Committee of Srimanta Snkaradeva Sangha in collaboration with Hajo Zila of srimanta sankaradeva sangha in association with Suren Das College, Hajo. The Hon'ble Panchayat and Rural development Minister of Assam, Sjt. Ranjit Das graced the occassion as Chieg Guest of the programme. The hon'ble Chancellor of Mahapurusha Srimanta sankaradeva Vishwavidyalaya cum Padadhikar of Srimanta Sankaradeva Sangha graced the occassion. The other high dignitaries of the Sangha, Sjt. Babul Bora, Secretary General, Srimanta Sankaradeva Sangha also graced the occassion. The hon'ble vice-chancellor of Mahapurusha Srimanta Sankaradeva Viswavidyalaya, Dr. Hitesh Deka graced the occasion as a guest.
The Suren Das College fraternity felicitated Sjt. The programme started with lighting of the sacred lamp by Professor Mohanty folllowed by singing of the National Anthem. Dr. Hiranya Kumar Sarma, Principal, Suren Das College, Hajo gave the welcome speech. Professor Bhuddhadev Bhattacharjee gave a brief talk on the purpose of the GU-Alice India outreach programme through which he urged upon the students to take up research after their graduation. Prof Bedanga Das Mohanty gave a lengthy but enlightening speech through powerpoint presentation and face-toface interaction with students on the Nature of Atoms and how the scientists across the world have endeavoured to know the unknown universe through ALICE projects. This followed a brief interaction session. The meeting concluded with vote of thanks given by the host.
Prof. Mohanty also inaugurated the Wall Magazine Shrotaswani prepared by Women Studies Cell of Suren Das College, Hajo.

As the College has been preparing SSR for the Third Cycle of NAAC Assessment, The IQAC organised a workshop on “Preparation of Self Study Report”. The teachers dispelled their doubts and confusion through the queries.

The other objectives of the webinar was to evaluate the life and achievements of late Homen Borgohain and to inspire the students and the teachers to read the autobiographies, novels and especially the editorials of late Gohain in the Saptahik Nilachal, Amar Asom and such other newspaper dailies, etc.

Dr Ramen Medhi,Head of Political Science Department and DrAmulyaKalita,Head of History Department of Suren Das College graced the programme as resource persons. Dr Ramen Medhi has delivered a fruitful lecture on the topic “Significance ofDandiYatra” which was an act of nonviolent civil disobedience in colonial India led by Mahatma Gandhi. The workshop started with a live inaugural session (via Google Meet) from the respective institution. Dr. Biswajit Kalita, Assistant Coordinator, IQAC, Suren Das College started the inaugural session with welcome speech from Dr. H. K. Sarma, Principal, Suren Das College, Hajo. Prof. M. K. Sarma, Director, TLC, TU delivered his speech highlighting the objectives of the two-day programme and its benefit for the teachers as well as students also.
Following the inaugural session, there was a pre-recorded video session on “Introduction to Digital Learning Platforms in Teaching Pedagogy” and “Google Classroom (Part I): Set up and Manage” by Dr. Swapnarani Bora, Assistant Professor, TLC, TU. In the session the speaker discussed about various e-learning tools and platforms which can be used as supportive learning materials for the students. In the second session the speaker demonstrate how to use Google Classroom.
In the next session Dr. Bipul K. Sarmah, Assistant Professor, Dept. of Mathematical Sciences, TU delivered a pre-recorded session on “Overview of MOODLE”. Here the speaker mentioned in detail about how teachers can use MOODLE as an alternative classroom platform for the students along with detail illustration of creation of MOODLE platform. The session also included Setting up a MOODLE site, Setting Assignment and Quize.
In the last session Dr. Swapnarani Bora took a pre-recorded video session on “Google Classroom(Part II): Assignments and Questions and Google Classroom (Part III): Building a Quiz”. In that session Dr. Bora demonstrated how online evaluation can be performed in Google Classroom.
Day 2: July 08, 2020
In the second day of the programme 1st two sessions were taken by Mr. Ikbal Ahmed, Assistant Professor, TLC, TU on “Screencasting for creation of E-resources: An overview” and “Tutorial on Screencast-o-matic and Free Cam” which were Pre-recorded Video Session. In his sessions the speaker discussed about the idea of Screencasting and how screen recording can be performed easily for making videos of learning materials along with a tutorial on Screencast-o-matic and Free Cam software. The session also included Video Editing: Conversion and resizing and How to use QR code for easy access of materials.
Third session was Question & Answer Session which is again a live session via Google meet. In that session all the speakers of different sessions were present and responded to respective questions from the participants.
The program came to the end with a short valedictory session addressed by Prof. M. K. Sarma, Director, TLC, TU and concluding remarks by Dr. H. K. Sarma, Principal, Suren Das College. Participants also gave their feedback and well appreciated the the programme. The workshop ended successfully with vote of thanks by Dr. Biswajit Kalita.
Primary objective of the Workshop is to enable the teachers to use household ICT tools for creation and dissemination of e-resources and it intending to focus on the topics Use of digital learning platforms in teaching Pedagogy, Google classroom, Online Evaluation Using Google Classroom, MOODLE, Screencasting for e-resources, Screencast-o-matic with tutorials, Free Cam with tutorials. Altogether 36 faculty members from different colleges participated in the workshop.

A One day workshop on “Organic Farming” was held in the college on 14th Feb. 2020. Noted Agricultural Scientist Mr Satyabrat Sharma, who was invited as Resource Person, spoke on organic farming, vermiculture and other allied issues. A lecture was organized on the Draft of National Education Policy, 2020 on 11/09/2019. The programme was chaired by Dr. Prabin Ch. Das, President, G.B., Suren Das College, Hajo. Prof. (Dr.) Mihir Kanti Choudhury, Adviser to the Education Dept., Govt. of Assam, graced the occasion as Resource Person. The faculty members of the college as well as many distinguished persons of Hajo locality and hundreds of students participated in the programme. In this meeting, the College Magazine was also released.
An Online and Offline programme of MHRD, Govt. Of India, was organised by the college on 10th January 2019 under the Institution Innovation Cell (IIC) on the topic of “ Intellectual Property Rights” Resource Person Mr. D. Dutta, Scientist-B, Patent Information Centre of Assam Science, Technology and Environmental council elaborately discussed the said topic. An interaction session with students was also held.
A seminar on Employment scenarios in the North-East was organised by Mahatma Gandhi University, Meghalaya, in collaboration with the Internal Quality Assurance Cell of the college, on 06.04.2018. The seminar was presided over by the principal, Dr Hiranya Kumar Sarma. Dr Abhisek Das, Department of Health Science, Mahatma Gandhi University was the resource person. Dr Das, in his lecture, emphasised the problems of unemployment in the North-Eastern region. As such he appealed to the students to be attracted to employment-oriented subjects.
A seminar on the application of R.T. I in college: Pros and Cons of the problem was held on 21.04.2017 under the chairmanship of renowned Folklorist, Ex-Director of University classes of Gauhati University, Dr Prabin Ch. Das. Dr. Hiranya Kumar Sarma. Principal, Suren Das College welcomed the guest. Justice (Retd) Biplab Kumar Sharma, former judge of Gauhati High Court, delivered an interesting and informative keynote address citing examples from case laws. As Resource Person, Prof (Dr.) Ramesh Ch. Barpatragohain, Dean of Law faculty and Head of the Department of Law, discussed the topic of length and focus on the background, passing and application of the Right to Information.
A seminar on life skill education was held on 15/03/2017 under the chairmanship of Dr Hiranya Kumar Sarma, Principal of the college. Mr Ranjit Taku, Assistant Professor of S.B.M.S College, Sualkuchi, delivered his lecture as a Resource Person. Ranjit Taku presented the topic in a vivid way using a PowerPoint presentation. He gave examples of the different types of stress and how to overcome the stress. Dr Parul Das, Head, Department of Education spoke about the topic. The students actively participated in the interaction session. The Internal Quality Assurance Cell of the college organised the seminar.
