Workshop on Soft skills and Career counseling

The NSS unit of Suren Das College, Hajo in collaboration with Gauhati University NSS Cell organised a 5-day training programme on 'Soft Skills and Career counselling' for students of our college from 8th to 12th November 2021. The event commenced on 8th November, 2021 with an Inaugural session presided by Dr. Hiranya Kr. Sarma, Principal, Suren Das College, Hajo. The event was inaugurated by Dr. Ranjan Kr. Kakati, Director, Students' Welfare, Gauhati University and Coordinator GU NSS cell. Ms. Meghna Kaushik, Career counsellor and Soft skill trainer graced the workshop as the resource person. The activities carried out in the training programme mainly concentrated on improving self-analysis, develop effective communication and presentation skills, personality development, interview skills, life-building skills, time management and group discussion.
Certificates of participation were distributed to all the participants in the validictory programme.

Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav - Celebration of 75th Independence Day, 2021

In connection with Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, the NSS unit, teachers and office staff of Suren Das College have performed the following activities maintaining covid protocols :
As a part of this programme, on 15th August, 2021 the National Flag was hoisted in the college campus at 7:30 a.m by Dr.(Mrs.) Ranju Thakuria, HoD, department of Assamese followed by National Anthem. Dr. Thakuria spoke about the sacrifices of our national leaders and freedom fighters in bringing freedom to India.
A "Fit India Freedom Run 2.0" was also organised as a part of the programme in which all the participants run for 2 kilometers from the college via Pakhamela chowk with baner and flag.

In connection with Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, the NSS unit, teachers and office staff of Suren Das College have performed the following activities maintaining covid protocols :

Observation of 7th International Day of Yoga, 2021

On the occasion, a National Webinar on "Yogic practices for General wellness and Covid complications" was also organised on Google meet platform at 11 a.m. At the beginning, a keynote address was delivered by Dr. Hiranya Kr. Sarma, Principal of Suren Das College, Hajo, followed by inauguration of the webinar and it was inaugurated by Dr. Ranjan Kr. Kakati, Director of Students' Welfare and Co-ordinator, NSS Cell of Gauhati University. Renowned Yoga expert and certified Yoga professional, Mrs. Ankita Borthakur graced the occasion as the resource person. She delivered a valuable speech and spoke on how diferent ailments could be treated through Yogic therapy and how physical and mental health and fitness could be developed through Yogic practices. She exhibited various Yogic postures and displayed video prepared by her. An interactive session was also held just after her speech.
The webinar was anchored by Mr. Rajib Das, Programme officer of NSS unit and Dr. Ripima Buzarbaruah, Co-ordinator, IQAC offered vote of thanks. Altogether 127 nos. of participants joined in the webinar and a certificate of participation was provided to each participant.

The hand snnitizer was prepared by the teachers and students of Chemistry department of Suren Das College. A cleanliness programme "Swachhta hi sewa"was also undertaken. The volunteers cleaned the school campus and the main chowk of the village and sprayed bleaching powder. The NSS unit was also accompanied by Extension cell and Gender sansitization cell of the College. The Gender sansitization cell organised a street drama on "Current status and upliftment of women in society" acted by the students of the College.
Earlier, Dr. Ali Akbar Hussain, Vice-principal of the College addressed and spoke the gathering about the seriousness of second wave of Covid-19 and to follow experts and Govt. guidelines and to maintain social distancing. Mr. Nilakanta Das, secretary of Kaibartatola Raij Samiti and other few members were also present during the entire programme and provided valuable feedback and acknowledged the cause. The programme was coordinated by Mr. Rajib Das, programme officer and Mr. Debashish B. Krishnatreya, Asstt.programme officer, NSS unit, Suren Das College, Hajo.

In this connection, the NSS unit organised a "Mask & Hand sanitizer distribution and Cleanliness drive programme" at Hajo Kaibartatola, which is an adopted village of Suren Das College, Hajo as a health awareness initiative keeping in view of the impending threat of Covid-19.

The volunteers maintained physical distancing and other lockdown protocols. The volunteers urged them to strictly follow the experts and government guidelines to prevent Covid-19 infection. Members of Kaibartatola Raij Samiti were present in the programme. Seven (7) volunteers participated in the programme.

A seminar on “Employment Enhancement Techniques” was organized by the NSS Unit of Suren Das College, Hajo on 8th November,2019 under the chairmanship of Dr. Hiranya Kr. Sarma, Principal, Suren Das College, Hajo. Sri Anjan Choudhury, MD, Indian Skills Academy, Guwahati, graced the occasion as the resource person of the seminar. In his lecture, Mr. Anjan Choudhury touched upon the essential skills required for the students for being employable. Employment enhancement techniques were briefed in the light of communication skills, resume structuring, interview skills etc.
More than 100 students and teachers were present in the programme.

Seven-day Special Camp in adopted village.
04-07-2019
A seven days special camp was organized by the NSS Unit of Suren Das College, Hajo at VP Kaibartatola LP school of Kaibartatola, Hajo (which is a adopted village) in association with Kaibartatola Raij Goyrah from 27th June to 3rd July, 2019. The first day of the programme commenced hoisting of the flag followed by Saplings plantation programme. Then special camp inauguration meeting was held at 11 am under the president ship of Sri Bhabakanta Das. The camp was inaugurated by Dr. H. K. Sarma, Principal, Suren Das College, Hajo, Sri Kamal Baruah, Circle Officer, Hajo Revenue Circle was present as Chief guest. A large number of local people, school children, teachers, guests and 35 number of NSS volunteers were present in the inauguration programme.
On the same day, in the afternoon, after lunch, a door to door survey of the locality of the village was done by the NSS volunteers on Socio-economic status, education, hygiene, cleanliness, drinking water, sanitation etc. The survey was done with the help of questionnaire among 60 families of the locality and a report was prepared on the basis of the collected data.
Many awareness and health check-up programmes were organized during the camp.

Career Orientation Programme

A career oriented session was organized by the NSS Unit of Suren Das College, Hajo on 8th September,2018. Mr. Mohsin Raja, Digital and Social Media strategists consultant was the resource person on the topic “Career on Digital Age” and Ms. Pallavi Chutia, Radio Jockey at Radio Mirchi 95 FM, Times group was the resource person on the topic “Transitional Phase of Media Industry and Job prospects”. Dr. Hiranya Kr. Sarma, Principal of the College was the chairperson of the session. About 200 students and teachers were present in the programme.

Health Camp

The NSS Unit of Suren Das College in association with Sri Sankardev Nethralaya, Guwahati, organised a free eye check-up camp on 25 th March,2018 for the people of Hajo area. Dr. Isha Agarwal, Ophthalmologist and a group of other 4 optometrist from Sri Sankardev Nethralaya attended the camp to serve the people. Dr. Hiranya Kumar Sarma, Principal, Suren Das College inaugurated the camp. Mr. Rajib Das, Programme officer, NSS Unit, Suren Das College explained the purpose of the camp. Altogether 215 OPD patients attended, out of which 52 Cataract patients of BPL category were detected. 22 cataract patients of the said category have already received the surgical treatment free of cost at Sri SankardevNethralaya, Guwahati.

The Akshay-Patra Foundation, Amingaon centre (a mid-day meal preparation and supply center) took initiative to verify the hygenic condition of the meal supplied to the schools. Under the guidance of Mr. Rajib Das, Assitant professor, Department of Mathematics and Programme officer, NSS unit of the college, a team of 21 NSS volunteers visited the center on 1st November, 2017.

A seminar on "Importance of Digitization" was held on 15/09/2017. It was orgnaised by the NSS Unit of Suren Das College. Dr. Guruprasad Khataniar, Academic Registrar, Gauhati University was the resource person of the seminar. In his lecture, Dr. Khataniar emphasised on the advantages of digital technologies and explained that the use of digitization reduces te use of papers, time, and labor in work. The digital technology is of much use in every field such as education, business, industry, office and social activites. He also expressed the need of computer education for the application of digital technologies.

World Environment Day was observed on 5th June, 2017. The IQAC and the NSS Unit organised the programme. Tree plantation programme was done at 10 AM. Free treatment was provided to a total number of 166 people out of which 22 did USG and 30 other did ECG. Four doctors namely, Dr. Uday Bora, Dr. Kumudeswar Sarma, Dr. Hemanta Kr. Sarma and Dr. Aparajita Barman served the patients with treatment.
