Assamese


Introduction

The Assamese Department of Suren Das College, Hajo was established on 1979, offering Assamese as a General Course at H.S. level. In 1983 year, it also offered Assamese at Degree level. However, the department was not able to introduce Assamese as a Major Course at Degree level till 1988. But in the year 1989 Major Course also added to this Department to cope up with the demands of the students.

            Now, the Department has five faculty members at this moment. They are Dr Ranju iThakuria, Dr.Binita Baishya, Mr. Rahul Kuli, Sumi Kathar and Dr. Bhanita Nath.

            Now, in this Department more than 1500 students including Major students. All the students are closely associated with the department & take part in each and every activity organized by the department.

ü Vision of the Department

            Enriching Assamese Literature and to bring out the latent facts thereof through practice of Assamese Language, Literature and Culture.

 

ü Mission of the Department

A.   To produce competent youths who can contribute to the field of Assamese Literature and Culture.

B.   To create an environment in the local area through Seminar/Workshop etc. so that the rural mans could be made aware of the development in the field.

Painting and Rangoli Competition for World AIDS Day

On 30th November, the Red Ribbon Club and the Assamese Department of Suren Das College, Hajo, collaboratively organized a painting and Rangoli competition among students to commemorate World AIDS Day. The event aimed to spread awareness about HIV/AIDS, emphasizing the importance of prevention and care.

The program began with a lecture delivered by Dr. Rahul Kuli, Coordinator of the Red Ribbon Club. In his insightful address, Dr. R. Kuli highlighted the alarming rise in HIV/AIDS cases globally and locally. He emphasized the need for collective efforts in combating the stigma associated with the disease and urged students to adopt precautionary measures and spread awareness in their communities.

The event saw enthusiastic participation, with a total of 30 students showcasing their creativity through painting and rangoli designs. Their artworks reflected themes related to AIDS awareness, prevention, and support for individuals living with HIV.

 

Approximately 100 students and faculty members attended the event, making it a highly engaging and successful initiative. The program concluded with an appreciation for the participants and a renewed commitment to spreading awareness about HIV/AIDS within and beyond the college community. Such initiatives are instrumental in educating young minds and fostering a sense of responsibility towards pressing social and health issues.
