Introduction


Mission & Vision

Mission: Folklore department is a department which dedicated to the study of folklore and expressive cultural traditions in the state of Assam along with India.

Vision :  Folklore department relates its course to North east  India where cultural instability and decay of traditional knowledge is rampant any student interested in learning folk arts and knowledge can join this course.This course will create activism and knowledge for the cause of cultural right of the weaker groups and empower the communities by spreading awareness.

Programme Outcomes : B.A. Folklore primarily focuses on geography,time, space and literature of the folklore and culture of India. The program aims to find out the relation between folk culture and context such as Literature,Sociology, History, Anthropology and Folklore Studies. The program focuses on themes such as oral literature,social customs, material culture, performing arts,the methods and theories of Folklore such as historical- geographical, cross- cultural, historical- re- constructional, psycho- analytical, functional, ideological, structural and contextual- all of which demand an inter disciplinary approach.

The program discuss about the development and vibrant traditions of oral narratives in India and facilitates the issue of tribal culture as a concept with special reference to literature, historical or linguistic studies of the folklore of Assam.

 

Programme Outcomes

P.O.-I: To inculcate human values among the students for a healthy cultural society.

P.O.-II: To enable the students to meet the challenges of future and to be able to serve the societies in various capacities          

P.O.-III: To help students acquiring skills to be employable in the govt. and non government sectors.

PO-IV: To enable the students about their own culture and society.

Programme Specific Outcomes

PSO-I:  Helping the students to know the basics of their own culture.Teaching various genres in Folklore to the students helps to acquire the knowledge of folklore and empower them with their own culture . After completion the students can forward to post graduate level as well as for different jobs.

PSO II: The programmes prepare the students for  research in areas of vast folklore materials, especially of the North East India, incredibly rich in ethnic and cultural diversity.

PSO: III:  The programme enable the students to identify the issues of contemporary relevance of folklore and applied aspects of traditional knowledge.

PSO-IV:  To increase in-depth Knowledge of the Core Areas of the Subject

Field trip " Hajo Pit kati Beel"

Workshop on " Find Your Confidence"
11-07-2022

 On 2/06/2022 ,a Workshop on the topic " Find Your Confident " was organised by the department of Folklore, Suren Das College Hajo with IQAC of the College at college auditorium. Dr. Rupanjali Hazarika, Assistant Professor dept. of English,Suren Das College Hajo was the resource person.She delivered a lecture on the mind power and how students could increase their positive power and in this connection she demonstrated some exercises. At the beginning of the session, Dr. Ripima Buzarbaruah IQAC Coordinator of the college gave the key note address. Ms Monmi Kakati, head of the dept Folklore, delivered the significance of the workshop. About 80 students and 10 teachers were present in that programme.Ms. Sabita Kalita, head of the dept of Philosophy gave the Vote of Thanks.

In that competition about 30 competitors were joined.The judges  selected three competitors among the 30 candidates.  On 3/02/2021, Freshmen Social was organised by the students of folklore department Suren Das College Hajo.All the students along with the faculties and invities were present in that program.Students of 4th and 6th sem organised a cultural show where some students were participated. The program was beginning with a zikkir performed by Monuar Hussain ,students of 6th sem. After that falicitation program was arranged where all the invites were falicitated. Dr. Ali Akbar Hussain, vice principal & head of the dept. of English  was the chief guest. He delivered a meningful lecture to the students. Ms. Momi Kalita  and Janmoni Mahanta of 6th& 4th sem students respectively performed Bihu dance. There was an introduction session between senior students and the new commers. At the end,Farjul Ali students of 6th sem delivered Vote of Thanks.

Workshop on Agriculture and Nursery Workers

The department of Folklore Suren Das College Hajo, organised a vocational Training Certificate course on Agriculture Nursery Workers for 20 number of selected students in collaboration with Jan Sikshan Sansthan Kamrup under Ministry of Skill Development Govt of India. This training was held from 3rd November 2020 to 3rd March 2021. At the inaguration of the program the resource person Mr. Sabin Das gave the lecture on the importance of such a vocational course for students.  In his lecture he mentioned the activities of branches of Jan Sikshan Santha of Assam and the kamrup branch . The students were offered with a certificate after the completion of the course. The program was for four months.The principal of the college Dr. Hiranya Kumar Sarma, was present at the program. A National webinar was organised by the department of Folklore with IQAC Suren Das College Hajo on 11/08/2020. The topic of the webinar was "  The Role of Cultural Tourism in Socio Economic Development" . In that webinar three resource person were invited. Dr. Dayananda Pathak, former principal Pragjyotish College, Guwahati, Dr. Prabin Chandra Das, former secretary, Gauhati university classes,  Dr. Sujay Kumar Mandal, Associate Professor, dept of Folklore, Kalyani University, West Bengal. Dr. Pathak spoke in his speech that North East India has a great prospect of tourism development. On the other hand, Dr. Prabin  chandra Das spoke the tourism prospect of Hajo. Dr. Sujay Mandal delivered his lecture through power point presentation. Dr. Hiranya Kumar Sarma, Principal , Suren Das College Hajo,gave the welcome address.Ms. Monmi Kakati , head of the department Folklore and coordinator of the webinar gave the significance of the webinar. The topic of the webinar was "  The Role of Cultural Tourism in Socio Economic Development" . In that webinar three resource person were invited. Dr. Dayananda Pathak, former principal Pragjyotish College, Guwahati, Dr. Prabin Chandra Das, former secretary, Gauhati university classes,  Dr. Sujay Kumar Mandal, Associate Professor, dept of Folklore, Kalyani University, West Bengal. Dr. Pathak spoke in his speech that North East India has a great prospect of tourism development. On the other hand, Dr. Prabin  chandra Das spoke the tourism prospect of Hajo. On 19/11/2019, a lecture program was organised by the department of folklore, Suren Das College Hajo and Asom Janakristi Samaj on the occasion of the death anniversary of Dr. Prafulla Dutta Goswami and Dr. Pramod Chandra Bhattacharya. The title of the program was " the life and achievement of Dr. Prafulla Dutta Goswami and Dr. Pramod Chandra Bhattacharya . The two resource person were invited for the two topics. One of the resource person was Dr. Dayananda Pathak, former Principal Pragjyotish College, Guwahati. He delivered lecture on the life and achievement of Dr. Prafulla Dutta Goswami. In his speech he mentioned that Dr. Goswami was the father of folklore of North East India. He contributed a lot to the study of folklore. He also mentioned that Dr. Goswami was a former head of the department of Folklore Research Gauhati University. He had established the Assamese folkculture in the international platform through systematic investigation and scientific research. Again, the another resource person Dr. Prabin Chandra Das , former secretary University classes Gauhati University, delivered lecture on the life of Dr. Pramod Chandra Bhattacharya and his contribution to the study of folklore of Assam. The program was presided over by the professor Dr. Nabin Chandra Sarma, former Professor department of Folklore Research, Gauhati University. At the end, Dr. Mamoni Goswami, Assistant Professor Barkhetri College, Nalbari and a member of Janakristi Samaj gave the Vote of Thanks. The principal of Suren Das College Hajo Dr. Hiranya Kumar Sarma along with head of the department, other faculties and students were present at the program.
