Vision of Folklore Department: Folklore Research department relates its course to North –east India where cultural instability and decay of traditional knowledge is rampant any student interested in learning folk arts and knowledge can join this course. This course will create activism and knowledge for the cause of cultural right of the weaker groups and empower the communities by spreading awareness.
Mission of Folklore Department : Folklore department is a department which dedicated to the study of folklore and expressive cultural traditions in the state of Assam along with India.
Programme Outcomes : B.A. Folklore primarily focuses on geography,time, space and literature of the folklore and culture of India. The program aims to find out the relation between folk culture and context such as Literature,Sociology, History, Anthropology and Folklore Studies. The program focuses on themes such as oral literature,social customs, material culture, performing arts,the methods and theories of Folklore such as historical- geographical, cross- cultural, historical- re- constructional, psycho- analytical, functional, ideological, structural and contextual- all of which demand an inter disciplinary approach.
The program discuss about the development and vibrant traditions of oral narratives in India and facilitates the issue of tribal culture as a concept with special reference to literature, historical or linguistic studies of the folklore of Assam.

P.O.-I: To inculcate human values among the students for a healthy cultural society.
P.O.-II: To enable the students to meet the challenges of future and to be able to serve the societies in various capacities
P.O.-III: To help students acquiring skills to be employable in the govt. and non government sectors.

Programme Specific Outcomes
PSO-I: Helping the students to know the basics of their own culture.Teaching various genres in Folklore to the students helps to acquire the knowledge of folklore and empower them with their own culture . After completion the students can forward to post graduate level as well as for different jobs.
PSO II: The programmes prepare the students for research in areas of vast folklore materials, especially of the North East India, incredibly rich in ethnic and cultural diversity.
PSO: III: The programme enable the students to identify the issues of contemporary relevance of folklore and applied aspects of traditional knowledge.
PSO-IV: To increase in-depth Knowledge of the Core Areas of the Subject
