Waste Management Drive
08-06-2022

A waste management drive was performed from 2nd June to 6th June, 2022 by the Department of Chemistry in collaboration with IQAC, Suren Das College, Hajo. The handling and disposing of liquid/solid/glassware waste falls under the waste management. Direct disposing of chemical waste such a solid, liquid or solvent waste can have a huge impact on environment and can also cause serious problems which in turn requires for proper waste management. Looking at the importance of waste management, a group of 20 students from the 2nd and 4th semester (chemistry major) participated in this waste management drive and the results for the analysis has been presented as a report by the individual students. Different categorization for the common laboratory waste management have been practiced by introducing small containers/reagent bottles and drums of solid waste, glassware’s waste, chlorinated and non-chlorinated solvent waste, acidic waste, basic and neutral waste, etc. After the completion of drive, the students have learnt to handle the chemical waste in a scientific and systematic manner.

Soil Analysis
23-02-2022

A soil analysis based on complexometric titration was performed by the Department of Chemistry in order to estimate the amount of macro nutrients such as Calcium and Magnesium in soil samples of Suren Das College, Hajo. The soil analysis is a scientific process that is in general used to identify nutrients deficiency, composition and level of soil nutrients. Looking at the importance of soil analysis, a group of 30 students from the 3rd semester participated in this drive and the results for the analysis has been presented as a report by the individual students. As the final scientific results requires vigorous experiments and since our final estimation was based on manual titration by the students, the overall/final report is under construction.
